Fables recount how Icharus wanted to soar like an eagle but alas fashioned his wings from wax, which softened in the hot sun and no doubt body heat as well. Good intentions, bad technology. The Icharus types today utilize a harness suitably fastened to a fabric wing with key vent holes along the front edge to inflate the wing, providing the aerodynamic lift to mimic that soaring eagle.
Launching is always into the wind as in powered aircraft with techniques as simple as the pilot running forward to more complex techniques known as slope soaring or powered towing. Each launch technique depends on wind speed, terrain and pilot skill in utilizing thermals to their soaring advantage. Landing requires the skills of manipulating the wing for still or slight running landings avoiding the harmful crashes that many novices experience.

In flight Wing Deflation at low Altitude a Serious Hazard
Turbulent air can produce wing deflation at any time. At higher altitudes the airfoil (wing ) has sufficient time for the wing to redeploy to normal flight status. At lower altitudes the recovery time is crucial. If recovery is not happening a reserve parachute is carried but most be deployed above 200 feet for the parachute to do its job. Crashes from non recovery have resulted in serious injury and death. The combination of adrenalin surge and soaring is a unique experience peculiar only to paragliding. In addition a pilot in congested air space must be familiar with all the rules and regs that apply to that situation.
Cross country flying is possible when Paraglide pilots learn to recognize the land formations that produce thermals, masses of rising hot air lifts the glider to higher altitudes perpetuating the flight as the pilot flys from thermal to thermal. Cross country distances then require the pilot to have a radio and gps instrument so location is known and communication is a must.

Sir Edmund Hillary conquered mount Everest after many previous attempts failed to climb the highest mountain in the world. So, what was left to climb simply because its there? Nothing of the sort of course but the knowledge and techniques for scaling peaks remained to become the source of a burgeoning mountain climbing extreme outdoor sport dubbed mountaineering. The sport has developed three basic paths according to the desired type of climb over snow, ice or rock. The challenges range from a walk up Pikes Peak to the 14,000 foot summit with an overnight lodge about half way up to some of the most rugged and dangerous climbs existing world wide.
The Inherent Hazards of Mountaineering
The experience gained from mountain climbing to the summits has taught man how to best deal with the hazards that demand the strength, sound climb strategy and full knowledge of climb equipment to cope with expected and unexpected hazards almost certain to turn up in the extreme outdoor sport of mouintaineering. Hard snow can cover over gaps in glacier ice known as crevasses. Teams of five or more climbers tied together by equal lengths of rope can pull a fall through victim back up to safety. There are general hazards like storms that materialize almost instantly, avalanches that can bury one in suffocating snow and falling rocks. Many locations have permanent base camps and shelter huts along the traversable routes. Other hazards include thin air, intense solar radiation and volcanic activity. The thrill of adrenalin surges overwhelms these many risks as mountaineering grows apace with other high risk endeavors.
So whatever climb style one chooses-expedition type climbs in the Himalayas with a large contingent of support people or Alpanism where the climber carries all necessary equipment with them the motivation is the same. Your chosen route has been climbed before but you have not personally climbed it and its there for you to personally conquer it.

The city of Colorado Springs is approximately an hour’s drive from the mountain city of Cripple Creek, famed for the gold strike of the late 19th entury. That 50 mile distance masks the reality of the change in elevation between the two cities.Starting at Colorado Springs at elevation 6300 feet, up Ute pass to Woodland park at elevation 7400 feet. Then another up leg to a crest of 10,000 feet before descending into Cripple Creek at elevation 9500 feet. Traversing this high route is a snap for the auto but- in the warm seasons- the stream of mountain bikers pedaling their way to an adrenalin high on high is truly amazing. One can’t help reflect on the superb conditioning required to develop the stamina and endurance to accomplish this physical feat. This leads to curiosity of how it all got started and where does it lead ?
The Buffalo Black Soldiers, Pioneers of Mountain Biking
Mountain biking traces back to a group of black soldiers known as the 25th infantry buffalo soldiers based in Missoula, Montana in the 1890′s. this group modified bikes for long distance cycling such that, when fully provisioned, they weighed 70 to 120 pounds. This group-with single speed bikes- achieved two notable and documented feats. First a round trip of 800 miles from Missoula to Yellowstone. Then a one way trip of 1900 miles to St. Louis, Missouri. They set a lofty standard for endurance to be emulated by today’s crop of mountain bikers. The modern era began with a group of mountain bikers in Morin County, California in the 1970′s. They are largely resposible for the flat handlebars, fat tire and multiple gear features of today’s mountain bikes. Perhaps even a fraction of the conditioning necessary for mountain biking would be a boost for better health as well as the adrenalin highs.

Action sports or adventure sports with a great degree of inherent danger are termed as the extreme sports which mostly form part of outdoor sports. They all have one thing in common-that is the adrenaline rush that they generate in the adventure seeking sportsmen. The out of the world experience that such sports provide are their USP and this phenomenon of taking sports to the limit of human endurance and fear has now taken the form of cult following in many parts of the world. The various types of these outdoor sports which have taken extreme forms are BASE jumping, Bungee jumping, Hang Gliding, Para Gliding, Ski jumping, Sky Diving, Sky Jumping, Sky Surfing, Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Mountain Snow Boarding, Mountain Bike Racing, Snow Mobiling, Mountaineering, Cliff hanging, Free Fall Cliff Jumping, Free Diving, Jet Skiing, Powerboat Racing, White Water Kayaking, Surfing and many more countless variants. As is evident from the above list, these outdoor sports can be done on land, water or in air and even under water, in fact wherever there is a possibility if of a challenge and danger. The motivation behind engaging is such types of sports, which some may term as sheer madness is the motivation to push beyond the normal and achieve the extraordinary. The human spirit’s desire to seek out unknown thrills is probably what creates these extreme sports and human body’s ability to endure beyond expectations is what makes them popular. While the joy of these sports is unlimited, care should be taken to get the desired training and achieve the requisite proficiency before trying out stunts. Adequate training, protective gear and all safety precautions must be in place to ensure that while undertaking these activities there always remains a window of safe escape. So this inscribes the Outdoor Sports of the Extreme Nature.

White water river rafting is one of the most challenging outdoor sports. The thrill of negotiating rough and turbulent waters on an inflatable boat is amazing and the sheer scale of the uncertainty that accompanies this sport is the key to the excitement that it creates. This particular outdoor sport is quite dangerous from the very out look and some consider it in the category of extreme sports. Started in the seventies this sport has been steadily gaining popularity ever since all over the world. The more fanatic players travel all over the globe in search of the roughest water with the most difficult terrain to get that maximum thrill which is the hallmark of this sport. The inflatable boat is made of multilayered rubberized poly vinyl that is strong enough to take the vagaries of a wild river. The boat normally has multiple air chambers to cater for leak in one of them. Steering is effected by the oars in the hands of the crew who also are suitably dressed in protective gear. The white water is even graded depending on the roughness and currents a scale of 6 wherein 6 is the most dangerous state of the water to be doing rafting in. The Colorado River in the Grand Canyon and the Jalcomulco River in Mexico are some of the most difficult rivers to be rafting in and have been the cause of many fatal accidents. Though this adventurous outdoor sport is ultimate to get you that adrenaline rush it can be quite tricky for the uninitiated. Despite the inherent dangers associated with white water rafting, you will always find rafts being carried on top of vehicles to higher heights wherever there are turbulent rivers gushing. This form of outdoor sports has now become well known and accepted in most of the countries.

If you are looking to try a new outdoor sport, why not get out and about on a jet ski? This unique and exciting form of sport can be just the thing if you are looking to spruce up your outdoor sporting activities. Here are a few things to bear in mind as you are getting started.

The first step is to attach the automatic engine shut up tag to your body. Each jet ski comes with a tag that turns off the engine if it is removed from the jet ski. The idea is that if this is clipped to you and you fall into the water, the jet ski will stop and you will be able to get back on easily, without having to swim after one that is still moving!

The throttle is located on the handlebars, and to increase your speed you gently squeeze the throttle to make the engine more powerful. While you are still in the dock, be sure to keep your speed to a minimum. It may also be a good idea to go slowly in the open water as fell if you are on your first jet skiing trip. Practice making turns whilst going at a slow speed so that you can learn the basics of maneuvering the machine. Once you get the hang of the controls, you can start to open the machine up a little and go faster.

It is also important to keep an eye on the surrounding area, especially if you are jet skiing on the open ocean. It can be easy to get carried away and drift off into areas that may not be safe, such as rocky or shallow stretches of water. By being vigilant at all times, you can ensure that your jet skiing trip is an enjoyable one, without any unforeseen difficulties.

Jet Ski, the brand name of a personal watercraft from the Yamaha group, has caught on the imagination of a whole generation of adventurous young people and has acquired the status of new outdoor sports in itself. Developed in the seventies, these personal water crafts by Yamaha have become extremely sophisticated in their present day versions and therefore are being used to take them to the limits of human endurance and skills in these new forms of outdoor sports. There are stand up versions as well as sit down designs with single or multiple passenger facility. The engines are very powerful enabling the rider to accelerate quickly to great speeds. Some have been aerodynamically designed for cutting smoothly through the water and making sharp turns. There are certain versions exclusively meant for those stunning aerial jumps. The basic form of this sport is freestyle which refers to pure racing in terms of speed and does not include aerial stunts as part of the sport. There are some closed circuits for racing where the latest engines are revved to get that acceleration on water which is the hall mark of these kinds of outdoor sports. However, the prize for the extreme versions goes to Free Riding Jet Skiing. In this variant of the sport the riders take aid of rising waves using it like a plank to get an aerial jump where they display aerobatics on the Jet Ski. This is a rather dangerous form of the sport and is attempted only by those who have mastered riding the waves on their Jet Ski. These outdoor sports have gained world wide popularity and there are many international events and meets being organized round the year for the Jet Ski enthusiasts who gather from all corners of the globe to participate whole heartily.

Mountain biking is a great sport. It can be exciting, challenging, and a great workout, all at the same time. A day on the bike trails is fun, but you should be sure to bring along a few items. You will need supplies, food and water, and tools, but you should try to keep your carry-along items to a minimum.

Food and water are likely the most important things to bring with you. There’s nothing worse than getting to the end of a trail and finding out that you have no energy left to get back to your car! You need to fuel your body to have energy, and without food your focus lags, which can cause you to get into an accident. Of course, water will keep you hydrated and maximize your performance on the trail.

You should also make sure to have a couple of basic tools with you. You should have a set of Allen wrenches, since Allen bolts are the most commonly used on mountain bikes. With all the bumping on mountain trails, bolts can become loose, so it is a good idea to carry a couple of replacements along with your wrench set. A chain tool can also be useful. Of course, your tools may wind up useless if you don’t have the emergency supplies you need. Have an extra tube for your tires, a mini-pump, and a patch kit in case you get a flat.

Finally, since you have likely left your car at the base of the trail, make sure you have good classic car insurance, and take your insurance papers with you. That way, if anything happens while you are on the trail, you will have everything you need to file a claim when you get home. It’s usually a good idea to bring a cell phone for emergencies, too!

Sports are never dull. Sometimes, not being dull isn’t enough. Every sport has a limit. When you stretch it, you take it to a whole new dimension, and you get ‘extreme sport’. It does not matter that many sporting activities like rollerblading, skydiving, scuba diving, and bungee jumping are adrenaline pumping already. Sports enthusiasts want to stretch the limits of these sports and test man’s endurance. Here are some of the most dangerous sporting activities people do for fun.

Base jumping: In one word: suicide. In this sport, you have to jump from a tall building or antennae, bridge or cliff to establish yourself as a base jumper. The risk is higher in this extreme sport because the jumping is done from a very low height, sometimes as low as 150m, in which the jumper may have only five seconds to open his parachute and land.

Aggressive rollerblading: Jump, grind, slide, and flip. Easy? Not if you are on skates and doing these moves on edges, rails, stairs, walls, ditches and defying gravity in every possible way. Aggressive skating professionals look ‘cool’ in all respect, wearing their rollerblades like regular footwear. One would be tempted to think that footwear like this is now high fashion, if not for the hazard associated with it.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA): These guys take extreme to the extreme. It’s a mishmash of all martial arts combined with plenty of old-fashioned wrestling and boxing. So elbows touching chins, and jaws smacking knees are very common and so is blood splattering all around. It’s definitely not a sport for the faint-hearted, even if just for watching.

Free diving: Someone once forgot to take his or her breathing equipment while deep sea diving, and now suddenly it has become an extreme sport. Here, divers dive without breathing equipment to see how far they can go down in a single breath.

Sports are a great way for children to learn a lot about the way the world works. This is one of the main reasons so many people support organized sports. However, parents need to be careful before they sign their children up for any sport because they have the ability to ruin the experience for them. Below are two things that all parents need to consider before they sign their kids up for an organized sport.

Readiness: It’s understandable that parents want to see their kids having fun and playing with other kids their own age, and organized sports are great outlets for this, but you need to make sure your child is physically and emotionally ready. For example, while it’s exciting to see your three year old son in the back yard kicking a soccer ball around, that doesn’t mean he’s old enough to play soccer. On the other hand, he may have the ability to understand the game and be physically able to play the sport with other three year olds. Just make sure your child is mentally, physically and emotionally ready before you sign him up for sports.

Interest: One mistake that many parents make when it comes to their kids playing sports is being biased towards a particular sport. Before your child will be able to receive all the benefits organized sports have to offer him, he has to be excited about it first. If you want your child to play football, but he really wants to play baseball then you should let him play baseball. It’s important that kids are able to play the sports they’re interested in, otherwise they will just resent the sport and everything associated with it – including the life lessons that can be learned from it. Many children make the decision not to play sports at all because their parents try to force them into playing a particular sport. Don’t make that mistake.

Teenagers are very interested in socializing with their friends. If you are a teen, you know this to be true. You are likely looking for a way to spend time with your friends outdoors. After all, you can only do so much at the mall and the movie theater. There are plenty of outdoor sports to choose from. The only catch is that you have to ensure that you are choosing an activity that your parents approve of as well. This may or may not include sports such as skydiving, mountain climbing, dirt bike racing and other extreme sports.

You might want to get together with some friends for team sports such as volleyball, soccer, football, baseball, or tennis at the park, school or someone’s backyard. Other sports that you can play with your friends include street hockey, basketball and paintball. There are many group sports available for those of you that enjoy spending time with friends.

The great thing is that most of the sports listed above can be played by everyone, which makes it easy to organize informal “tournaments.” To do this all you need to do is get a large group of friends together, decide what sport tournament you want to have and divide into two teams. Most of these tournaments consist of several games and the team that wins the most wins the tournament. Of course, you can really get crazy and allow more than two teams to join and offer prizes to the winners.

While group sports are fun, they aren’t for everyone. Many people need to participate in a competitive sport, but one where they don’t have to depend on anyone else to win. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this at all. In fact, many of these sports are sports that can be continued to be played after high school. A few examples include hunting, bull riding, barrel racing, skateboarding and many more!

As its name might suggest, white water rafting is an outdoor sport which involves riding a raft over white water. This white water is usually created by a rough patch in a body of water, such as a river, where the water moves rapidly throughout varying terrain. The rafts are usually propelled by paddles or oars. Depending on where you go, you can ride smaller, individual kayaks, or you can ride a large raft with a group of four to ten people. There are different options available for how you go white water rafting. For example, you can go for several days or make it day trip.

Contrary to what you may think, not all white water rafting rivers are natural, some are man made. These man made rivers are purposely made to be geared towards different skill levels so that even children and families may participate together. No matter what your age, everyone that goes white water rafting is required to wear safety gear such as a helmet and a life jacket. While safety gear is important, it is also important to understand that some upper body strength is required for this sport. In fact, serious white water rafters train for this event by working out to build their upper body strength. Competitive white water rafters may train for months before a tournament.

If you are going to go white water rafting, you need dress accordingly. This means you need to be ready to get wet and dress for the weather as well. In warmer weather, it is easier to dress appropriately because not only will it be warm out, but the water will also be warmer than it would be during the cold season. During the cold season, it is recommended that you wear several layers of clothing, made of synthetic fabric to prevent the clothing from getting wet and clinging to you, which will make you cold.

Hunting wildlife has always been a popular fall and winter sport. The best part about hunting is that not only is it an enjoyable sport, but it also brings about the satisfaction of providing food for the family. Once upon a time, hunting was the only way to find meat to eat. Often times, hunting is usually a time of bonding for male family members and friends. However, some women enjoy hunting too. If you are considering embarking on your own hunt, there are some things you must review first.

One of the things you need to do to prepare yourself for your first hunt is to find your local wildlife agency and become familiar with the requirements for hunting. This will ensure that you will not be in violation of any restrictions that could potentially spoil your hunt. Each jurisdiction maintains different regulations regarding types of species that can be hunted legally, and also regarding land access.

As a beginning hunter, the next step is to enroll in a hunter education program that will allow you to familiarize yourself with identifying the various juvenile and adult birds or animals that you will be hunting. Additionally, you will want to become familiar with the patterns of the animals in the landscape and the landscape of the area that you plan to hunt in.

When this has been completed, it is time to apply for and purchase your hunting license, as well as purchase your firearm and enroll in a firearm safety class. It is an absolute must to keep in mind that you need to always be aware of others around you in order to make sure that everyone stays safe. After all of this red tape is addressed, go ahead and get out there and enjoy your first of many hunting adventures.

While many people have heard of the sport called adventure racing, most people do not really know what it entails. Adventure racing consists of teams that must diligently work through various complex challenges and competitions of different lengths, different orders, and in various locations to reach a finish line ahead of the other teams. Some of the challenges the teams may need to compete in include running, horseback riding, mountain biking, paddling, or having to work as a team to cross a river. The challenges may also involve maps, navigation, or orienteering of geo caching, however no GPS systems are allowed.

The concept of adventure racing essentially combines all of the characteristics of a triathlon with a lot of dirt and mud, and then also adds in challenges that teams must compete in over an extended amount of hours, days, or months. It can almost be explained in the sense of an obstacle course that meets a scavenger hunt due to the fact that they are racing against other teams to complete all of the tasks first.

However, adventure racing is much more involved than both obstacle courses and scavenger hunts. Thankfully though, participants are made aware of the challenges they may face ahead of time, and this allows them an adequate timeframe to prepare ahead and build endurance while training to complete the specific tasks.

The most exhilarating part about adventure racing is that no two people will have the same experience, not even on the same team within the same competition. This increases the draw of the sport because it is truly always an adventure, making it true to its name. There are many television shows that show these types of challenges in action. Television shows like “Amazing Race” and “Cannonball Run” continue to attract viewers to the idea of adventure racing, as well as demonstrate how popular this sport is becoming in our culture.

The search for new and unique ways to satisfy the adrenaline rush that skydiving provides has allowed the birth of many new extreme dives. A lot of these extreme dives are underwater dives. One of these underwater extreme dives is called cave diving. This is a form of scuba diving where divers utilize special equipment to explore either man made or natural caves that contain water. If there was an emergency the diver would not be able to head straight to the surface due to cave ceilings, so they would need to navigate to an open area and have sufficient air to make it to the surface.

Ice diving is another form of scuba diving and is similar to cave diving. Ice diving, however, involves diving underneath ice, and unlike cave diving, usually has only one exit portal. For this reason, ice diving is a sport that is done in teams for safety. The second diver is responsible for either letting out line or bringing it in to ensure it does not tangle, and if there is an emergency the second diver is ready to jump in and help his team mate.

Free diving is yet a third form of scuba diving where divers hold their breath for extended amounts of time to either spearfish, take underwater pictures, or other competitions. This type of diving is done without the aid of any breathing apparatus, but at times may be close to the same depths as other divers that are using breathing apparatus, making it extremely dangerous.

These three types of extreme underwater dives allow people to avoid their fear of heights yet still experience the adrenaline rush that skydivers achieve, but there are many more types of extreme diving. Some of the other types extreme diving with a sense of danger are shark diving, space diving, cliff diving, and scad diving, which is short for suspended catch air device diving.

When you hear the term base jumping you may get images in your head of bungee jumping off a tower or something similar, but base jumping is something completely different than bungee jumping. This sport involves a parachute and relatively low places to jump from which adds the thrill factor to the jump, because there isn’t much time to safely open the parachute. In addition to a parachute, jumpers also utilize a special wing suit that allows the jumper to glide through the air and free fall until they reach an altitude where they need to deploy their parachute and soar back to the earth.

The word base is actually an acronym (BASE) that is used to describe the four structures that people jump from. The acronym BASE stands for buildings, antennae, spans, and earth. Many building owners make it hard for jumpers to jump from their building with high security such as fencing in place to prevent suicides and other jumps. For this reason, most jumpers that jump from buildings prefer to find skyscrapers that are currently under construction to jump from. This is due to the fact that the roofs are usually easier to get access too without fencing in place.

Antennae towers are ideal places for jumpers due to the tall height of the tower. They also usually have less security measures in place to keep jumpers from jumping. Additionally, antennae towers are usually in very open areas that make them perfect base jumping sites. Spans usually refer to bridges or other structures connecting or spanning a certain location. Bridges need to be extremely tall in order to be a suitable jump location. Earth refers to cliffs, or gorges, or canyons that are just the right height to make ideal jump locations. Jumpers are not usually picky about where they jump, as long as the site meets the criteria above for good base jumping.

Many people enjoy hunting, and more specifically, big game hunting. Examples of big game include bears, deer, moose, and boars. Deer are the most popular target of big game hunting in most areas of the United States. However, no matter where you are planning to hunt deer or any other big game you do need to make sure you are familiar with the rules and regulations of that particular area. Most states have hunter safety courses that must be taken prior to obtaining your hunting license which will also allow you to start taking steps to obtain a weapon legally.

One important thing to remember is that you should never go big game hunting alone. Not only will you have company and safety in numbers, but you will also have the ability to share or borrow your companion’s weapons. This can be very helpful for a first time hunter and quite cost effective too. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a lot more to hunting than just target practice. You will not spend the whole time shooting, but rather observing and watching your prey to get familiar with what they do during the day. This will a give you better opportunities to hit the target when you do shoot because you will be able to predict how they will react and will be able to outsmart them. This is actually the thrill of the hunt to most.

Some people go game hunting for the meat but there are others that are just looking for a trophy deer or buck. The trophy seekers are sometimes even willing to trade meat for weapons or other hunting tools. In a nut shell, once you decide that you would like to try hunting big game such as deer, and have obtained all training and licenses required by law, you are free to go out and have fun.

Before you can start making extreme diving adventures a part of your to-do list, there are some things you need to do first. Extreme diving is very dangerous and is physically challenging for even those who have been diving for awhile. For this reason, before doing anything else, you should make sure to get a physical and cleared by your physician. In order to ensure many happy dives, the next thing on the agenda is to go through the training or certification classes to become a certified scuba diver.

Many resorts or diving schools can provide you with introductory classes that will help you determine whether or not underwater extreme diving is for you. If you find that you like it and want to continue, then you need to get certified by a qualified diving certification center. Part of the certification involves a combination of class work, an exam, and actual dives in the swimming pool. However, you cannot obtain an open water certification in a swimming pool. Due to this fact, many people opt for the chance to travel to a tropical location for their certification dive. You will be trained on selecting the right equipment, how to care for it, how to use your new scuba gear, how to breathe properly underwater, and how to dive safely.

Once you gain experience scuba diving, then you are able to venture out into cave diving or ice diving. There are many starter cave dive sights that you can use to build up your experience, and prepare you for more intense dives. Most extreme diving is found underwater, but there are also options like skydiving that will also provide you with on-site training. No matter which extreme diving style you choose, the key to ensuring you will survive your expeditions is safety and proper training and certification.

Extreme sports are gaining popularity at a steady rate. Gone are the days when there was only a handful of extreme and shocking quests attempted by people seeking an adrenaline rush. These activities are in such an abundance that thrill seekers can now just hop from one extreme sport to the next when they need a change. There are many different types of these exhilarating adventures to choose from. They are mostly challenges that are based on jumping from high heights or being underwater, and they can be done both indoors and outdoors depending on how extreme you are planning to go with your journey.

If high heights are nothing to you, then you might be interested in things like bungee jumping, base jumping, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, paragliding, skydiving, and if you are feeling extra adventurous, give space diving a try. Yes, that is correct. Someone has jumped from over 100,000 feet, right on the edge of space. This makes skydiving from a plane sound like a breeze! If water sports are more your cup of tea, then perhaps you might take up surfing, extreme diving, or maybe you might be itching to try to circumnavigate the globe alone.

In addition to air and water extreme sports, there are also a bunch of options that are on land. Some of these types include skateboarding, mountain biking, mountaineering, rock climbing, and adventure racing. Adventure racing usually combines land activities with paddling activities in the water, so this may very well be a great choice for a person that cannot decide between water and land extreme sports. If the toss up for you is between air and land extreme sports, you might be interested in speed skiing. No matter which one you choose, please make sure that you take all the necessary precautions to enjoy your new extreme sport as safely as possible.

It goes without saying that taking precautions to be safe while hunting big game is absolutely essential to enjoying your hunting experience. In addition to general hunting safety, it is also worthy of noting that humans can sometimes appear to be a target to a big game hunter at a distance. For this reason it is imperative that you do not shoot unless you are absolutely positive that you can identify exactly what you are shooting at.

Something else to keep in mind is that bullets travel far and may hit a person that is out of your sight on the other side of a hill, and therefore shooting at an animal on a hill top is not a safe idea. Additionally, it is not safe to shoot in the dark. This may sound like common sense, but many lives have been lost due to careless shooting. In addition to learning safety with shooting, you should also take every precaution with researching what the weather patterns will be like during the time of your hunt and dress accordingly for the weather. Regardless of the weather, you should wear bright orange hunting gear so that you can easily be seen.

While using firearms to hunt big game, it is a high priority to keep both your eyes and your ears protected. Remember to wear safety goggles or glasses to protect your eyes, and also protect your hearing from the very loud vibrations of the shots with ear plugs or a headset. Some of the headsets come equipped with a two way radio for even further protection. It is also important to attend a hunter safety course that will educate you in detail on how to be safe while out on the hunt. However, the number one safety tip for hunting big game is to never hunt alone.

If you are a fan of skiing, surfing, and skateboarding, but are not quite sure which one to participate in, then snowboarding just might be the perfect sport for you. Snowboarding is pretty much a combination of surfing and skateboarding, but is done on the snow instead of on dry ground or water. The fact that snowboarding is done on the snow is the biggest thing that makes it similar to skiing.

Of course it goes without saying that the two sports share a similar dress code due to the cold. In addition to that, they both require the participant to affix their boots to boards. However, in skiing there are two ski boards, and in snowboarding there is only one board for both feet to be attached to. While skiers move forward by shifting their weight from left to right, snowboarders move themselves forward by shifting their weight from front to back, or from toes to heels, since they are attached on the board sideways, exactly the same way in which surfers and skateboarders are on their boards. Despite these differences, many ski slopes are currently able to accommodate snowboarding, as well as snowboarding instruction.

There are several different types and styles of snowboarding. One of the most popular styles is known as the half pipe, which is where snowboarders go down a half pipe made of snow while performing tricks within a set time frame, and are scored on a sliding scale based on difficulty. Snowboarding in general has increased in popularity so much since its beginning in the 1960s, that many sponsors are organizing competitions to showcase upcoming talents and promote the sport. A sure sign of a popular sport is its involvement in the Olympics, and snowboarding was added to the Winter Olympics as an official Olympic event in 1998.

If you are interested in racing your bicycle, then you likely are interested in getting started with what is known as BMX racing. BMX stands for bicycle motocross and is an obstacle course for racers that usually has eight gates. It goes without saying that the very first thing you need to get started with BMX is a bike. When you are first starting out however, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money on the bike. In fact, a lot of people buy their first bike second hand which results in a huge savings. They can be found in places like consignment shops, newspaper ads, garage sales, and the internet.

Other necessary equipment that you will need to pin down include safety items such as a helmet, gloves, long sleeve shirts, and long pants or jeans. Many tracks even have some things for rent if you can not secure your own. There are two different organizations that run BMX tracks, the American Bicycle Association and the National Bicycle Association. You can contact either one of these organizations for information about start up fees and how to join. There is usually an inexpensive trial membership available so that you can make sure that BMX is something you want to stick with for the long haul.

Once you are a member, you may find that there are some further requirements that may cause you to make minor changes to your bike to make it ready to race such as removing things like pegs and reflectors and adding padding to the handle bars. As with most sports, you will find that there are varying skill levels available to race in. If you are really successful with advancing through the skill levels in your local area, you may find that you want to start competing on a national level. However, doing this will require an investment of your time, money, and a lot of dedication.

Diving is an excellent sport for those seeking adventure and the chance to view a world that many will never see in person. However like any other extreme sport, diving has its risks and dangers that you should be aware of should you decide to take up this type of sport.

Whether you are scuba diving or snorkeling, any type of diving can come with dangers that you should be aware of.

Oxygen loss is one of the biggest dangers associated with diving in any form. Tanks can be lost, damaged or in some cases, lose pressure. Should this happen, a diver has to make it to the surface before the potential of drowning becomes a reality. Checking the tank before diving is paramount to being as safe as possible. This can be done under the water so that it is certain that it is functioning at its full potential. Check the lines as well; they are your supply of oxygen.

Along with oxygen loss, there is a condition call the bends. This is when a diver surfaces too fast or even descends underwater too fast. What happens is that high levels of oxygen go into the bloodstream and hurts a person’s circulatory system. This can cause death if not treated immediately and even then, sometimes it is fatal. Always dive with a partner so if there is trouble there is someone that can aid or get help.

Marine life is another consideration in diving that you should be fully aware of. Not only are sharks an issue but jellyfish, eels and stingrays are all marine life animals that can cause harm or even death to a diver. Be aware of what is around you at all times and if you do see one of these creatures, stay away from them. In the case of a shark, it can sometimes be best to abandon your dive.

When the phrase extreme sports is used by a person the first instinct is to think of really “out there” sports. After all, the name of the sport says it all – - its extreme. However, extreme sports seems to be growing in popularity and the general public’s opinion of extreme sports has changed.

What used to be a name only reserved for extreme snowboarding, skiing and hiking is now also reserved for other sporting events such as mountain climbing, surfing, BMX racing and sky diving just to name a few. With such a wide range of events it can only be expected that betting sites and gamblers all across the world will take advantage of it.

Here are some of the foreseeable sports that sports betting sites could potentially start taking bets for:

- Surfing

Surfing has some major competitions all over the world as well as a huge following. Sports betting sites could easily take bets on who will get the most points, who gets the perfect 10 and other elements of surfing.

- BMX racing

Just like any car or horse race, BMX racing could have bets taken on the various races. Each biker in a BMX has vast experience which would make it possible to have odds on each racer.

- Snowboarding

Snowboarding could be made into a race downhill in which the betters place bets on who would finish first, who does the most extreme tricks and other elements.

At the moment, none of the sports betting sites take bets on extreme sports. With the exception of the X-Games, extreme sports are still under the radar of gambling sites. However, that won’t last long. Sports betting sites are out to make as much money as possible. As extreme sports starts to grow in popularity, so will the possibility of betting sites taking bets on the outcome of certain events.

A form of surfing has been around as early as the 1700′s, when settlers saw Polynesians using boards to “walk on water.” Today, surfing is a popular extreme sport that many enjoy. However, whether a novice or a pro it is important to know good surfing etiquette.

Just like taking a car on the highway, surfing has right of ways. There are different wave priorities and these rules should be followed to ensure safety and good manners. There are four basic rules that include: furthest out, furthest inside, first to on the wave and using communication, such as calling right or left if a wave is peaking.

Cutting in front of others is not accepted in surfing just as cutting in front of someone in a long line at the movie theater. Respect others that were there first. Another important thing to remember is not to weave in and out by paddling near others to get an inside location on a wave.

Hogging the waves is another way to gain a bad reputation among fellow surfers. Be aware that others will want a turn as well.

As in any situation, if you do something that you shouldn’t, then apologize. Saying that you’re sorry can go a long way in making amends. While apologizing doesn’t make up for deliberate behavior, it can help if you made a legitimate mistake.

Always have respect for the locals in the area you are surfing. These are surfers that know the area and utilize it all the time. It won’t gain you any points to act like you own the area and use bad behavior and can even lead to a bad situation.

If you keep in mind all of these hints when surfing, you can enjoy an extreme outdoor sport that you love while keeping every around you safe and happy.

Whitewater kayaking is taking the sport of kayaking and making it into an extreme sport adventure. It is obviously similar to white water rafting but instead of using a raft to brave the rapids, a kayak is the form of transportation.

Whitewater kayaking is being able to face the most treacherous rivers and waterways. A person taking on this sport should be adept in using a kayak as well as having experience in very rough waters.

Kayaks that are ideal for whitewater use have to be stronger than typical kayaks. This is because the rough waters that are navigating can really put a beating onto the kayak. In that same vein, only a one person kayak is used due to safety issues; it is simply not safe to have two people in the boat during a whitewater trip. These kayaks can range from short to long; it all depends on the individual and what they want to achieve on their excursion.

There are various aspects of whitewater kayaking. Some people do it for fun and this can be what is known as river running where the kayak is taken down a whitewater river that is not as treacherous as others. These may even have spots that are flat combined with rapids in other areas. These are trips that can range in time spent. Some may want to make it a day trip and others might want to spread out their time into an entire week; it’s up to the individual.

Creeking is another form of whitewater kayaking, which is the most extreme form. This type of whitewater kayaking is where a person takes on the most treacherous waters in the world. These are typically part of a competition but can also be part of a trip for extreme whitewater enthusiasts.

Smell the bacon frying in a pan over a campfire as you watch the orange and red sunrise streak over the tops of the mountains. Soon, you’ll fix the pancakes and the eggs for a hearty meal to give you energy for the day.

The mountain range topped with deep green pine trees extends as far as the eye can see. Off in the distance, you hear the bugling call of an elk. Ah, this is the life for hunters, anglers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Put on your favorite pair of True Religion jeans and enjoy the day.

Elk River is a haven for the outdoorsman because it has so much to offer. You can ride your ATV during the summer over backcountry trails and logging roads. You can feel the exhilaration and watch sprays of white snow trailing your snowmobile as you ride over those same trails in the winter. Cross-country skiing over pristine snow is also available during the wintertime.

If you enjoy water, there are deep mountain-blue lakes, rivers and streams. You can go fly-fishing, canoeing and kayaking. If you can’t bring your own canoe or kayak, you can rent them locally.

Various campgrounds are available with hookups for your RV or spots where you can pitch a tent. From the campgrounds, you can hike various trails to places such as Granddad Bridge, the overlook to Dworshak Reservoir, Elk Butte, or to the waterfalls at the Upper, Middle or Lower Falls.

You can see magnificent wildlife in the Elk River area and the nearby Clearwater National Forest. Majestic elk herds roam the mountains. Moose graze in the mountain meadows. The sky is filled with ospreys and great blue herons. Often, you can see golden eagles soaring through the deep blue sky.

Surfing is a water sport enjoyed by many and while knowing what you are doing on the waves can make it safer, there are dangers to be aware of when in the water. These are a few things to be alert at any time when surfing.

Marine life is a part of any water activity and there are some sea creatures you should keep an eye out for such as sharks, sea urchins, stingrays, jellyfish and snakes. Every one of these marine creatures can cause life threatening injuries.

Drowning is always a danger when in the water. When surfing, it is best to have a partner along in case of danger. Being trapped on a reef or losing your board in the rough waves can potentially cause the threat of drowning.

Riptides are very dangerous for anyone in the water, no matter how well they can swim. An excellent swimmer can get swept up in a riptide and drown in just minutes. Always pay attention to flag warning systems and the threat of riptides.

The very waves you are surfing can be potentially dangerous. They are powerful and have been known to break bones in an instant. This is a common occurrence so be aware of their potential.

The sea bed itself can be dangerous even when it’s a sandy, seemingly soft bottom. Surfers that are pounded into it run the risk of numerous injuries. Even worse, a sea bed full of sharp coral can cause cuts and later, infections.

Believe it or not, locals can be quite aggressive at times so it is especially important to have good manners and follow the rules of good etiquette when in an area that you are not the local.

Although surfing can pose many dangers, it is an exciting and thrilling sport that is loved all over the world; just keep aware of the dangers that exist.

The term “extreme sports” actually got its start through the media. It is used to describe sports where the normal activity is “taken to the next level.” In other words, if you skateboard, the idea of extreme skateboarding means going faster, launching yourself from higher ramps or heights, or performing more difficult acrobatic moves such as flips, turns, and jumps.

Many people who participate in extreme sports feel that the term should not even be used unless there is actually an element of danger involved. Whether that danger comes from attempting a harder stunt or pushing one’s physical limits further isn’t the point-the fact that it has to be present (in their mind, at least) for the sport to be considered extreme is.

Extreme sports have become so popular in some areas; there are even places that cater to those who want to participate in their favorite activity. Some places only provide for one activity; for example, whitewater rafting. Another place may be large enough or located in an area where practically every type of extreme sport imaginable can be done.

This can actually be a good idea, as there is a time and place for everything. You don’t want to practice your extreme sports moves in areas where families are on skiing holidays with their children, so if you can find a place that allows extreme skiing, that problem is solved.

If you participate in extreme sports, then that is fine. Just remember that where there are extreme sports, there can be extreme injuries. No element of danger is worth losing your life or becoming disabled for. So, continue to use safety gear and common sense when practicing your extreme sport, and don’t try to talk someone into doing more than that person is or feels capable of doing.

Mountain Climbing is an extreme sport that true adventurists enjoy. However, there are many dangers associated with the sport of mountain climbing that those people who are interested in it should be aware of. Here are three of the most common issues in mountain climbing that can cause disastrous results.

Falling is a danger that is quite obvious. Even a fall from a short distance can be fatal due to the rough area surface of rocks. Broken bones are another problem that can happen when a person falls. Being aware of the surroundings is a good start in making sure a fall doesn’t happen. Always check the stability of rocks and don’t overestimate your strengths.

Avalanches happen under two circumstances. A thick chunk of snow can come loose from where it’s at or snow that is loose can roll down the mountain, acquiring more snow as it descends. Paying close attention to weather advisories and conditions can help you be aware of a potential problem. Although it can be disheartening, turning back due to bad weather is always the best bet when weather conditions may cause an avalanche.

Last but not least, the weather conditions can determine whether it is safe to ascend a mountain or safer to stay back. Frigid weather with snow accumulation makes it hard to have good visibility. Combine that with high altitudes then you also have breathing issues due to the lack of oxygen. As well as being dangerous, it can at the least, make it more difficult to climb. Always bring the right equipment with you and have enough oxygen on hand to combat this problem.

With keeping in mind the dangers associated with this particular sport, always play it safe and have the presence of mind to know when to stop. A climb can’t happen if you use dangerous mannerisms and don’t consider the consequences.

Snowboarding is an extreme sport that is enjoyed by many but for the beginner, there are a few things to know about the types and styles of snowboards. These are the basics so that you can enjoy the sport after choosing what is right for you.

Freestyle, Alpine and Freeride are the three styles of snowboards.

Typically, the snowboard that is most popular is the Freeride (all mountain) snowboard, which is perfect for all types of mountain use, half pipe or park. They have the ability to carve and float well on snow that is powder form. They are good for catching air as well.

Freestyle snowboards are another type of snowboard and what makes them unique is their appeal to beginners. They’re stable boards that are shaped wide and have excellent response. Tricks can be performed on these boards but high speeds make them not respond as well as other boards.

Alpine snowboards are what the pros use. They are narrow shaped with a stiff stature, are capable of high speeds and a long in length. Speed carving is what these are created for and they have excellent edge holding power. These are shaped two ways; asymmetrical and symmetrical and are for one-way traveling abilities.

There are two factors to consider when choosing a snowboard and those are foot size and how tall you are. While snowboards are built at 100cms to 180cms in length, the choice is based on the riders style of snowboarding and height.

Foot size is important to consider so that the board can be handled well. A board that is too long for a person’s foot will cause them difficulty in turning due to the pressure that has to be applied. If a person’s foot is longer than the board it can cause them to fall by catching on the edge.

Skydiving is a sport that is considered extreme and adventurous. While many fear jumping out of an airplane, others find it exhilarating and thrilling. It happens to be one of the most popular of all of the extreme sports.

Learning to skydive can be intimidating but knowing what to expect and what to do is important for the best experience; start by reading up on skydiving. Once you feel that you have read through most of the material on skydiving, find an instructor. Whether you use the Internet or the phone book, find a company that has certified instructors. You can even check out the United States Parachute Association for recommendations. Some take part in tandem jump training, which means you go at the same time as your instructor while strapped together.

Static line instruction is an option that many like since there is no way that a jumper will have to fear not opening their chute in time. This is because a static line is connected to the aircraft.

Free fall lessons are yet another way to learn to skydive by the jumper making the jump with two instructors but get to free fall by themselves for approximately a minute of time.

All the different styles of preparing for skydiving take from brief training sessions to numerous hours of training. For instance, static line lessons require the student to complete at least six hours of training that is very serious in nature. However, tandem jumping only requires a short training session since the jumper is strapped to the instructor.

When learning to skydive, or any extreme sport, it is important to ask as many questions as possible. Since many extreme sports can be dangerous if the right knowledge is not known, making sure to know the most you can learn can ensure a more safe and enjoyable experience.

Scuba diving is an excellent outdoor activity that is perfect for those that love the water but there are a few things to know in advance before trying it out for the first time.

There are diver requirements that have to be met before embarking on a scuba diving excursion. Physical conditions are a factor in whether you may or may not be able to take part in scuba diving. Breathing issues, heart ailments and high blood pressure are a few of the conditions that may need you to check with your physician first.

There may be forms to fill out such as a guarantee that you are able to take part in diving and all that it entails. This includes the demands on your body such as faster swimming and toting large and heavy dive equipment.

The correct equipment must also be a factor. This can involve taking the cost into consideration as well as what type of equipment is needed. Typically, fins and a wetsuit are the basic foundation for diving as well as the oxygen tank. As well as knowing which equipment to have, you must also know how to use it. Knowing how to use your breathing apparatus is paramount to your safety. Some dive shops rent equipment, which could be a good idea for a beginner.

Also, when taking a cruise or traveling to a beach locale, some excursions allow first time divers to learn about scuba diving right then and there. Florida is the top travel destination in the world with billions of visitors every year to see the beautiful reefs. Reserve your Florida vacation home rentals today to beat the crowds in scuba diving lessons. These crash courses have a trainer available during the dive to ensure the safety of everyone.

Scuba diving is a sport that allows to participant to behold the most beautiful views and a feeling of being at one with the ocean, like no other. However, before deciding upon this adventure, get the facts so that you can have a safe and enjoyable time.

With the many choices of extreme sports, rock climbing is one that has many benefits. From weight loss and muscle gain to social interaction and cost; rock climbing has something for everyone.

Rock climbing is perfect for those that want to get in shape because it works a multitude of parts of the body such as the arms, legs, torso and shoulders. The calories burned are always high no matter what kind of rock climbing is done. While rock climbing is strenuous at first, it is similar to most workouts where at first a person will feel limp and tired. Once they are used to climbing their muscles will strengthen and they will acquire definition in the body and overall weight loss.

On top of being an excellent workout, rock climbing allows the participant to experience breathtaking views that can only be appreciated after the climb. These are views that might not be otherwise seen or experienced without a climb to the top of a cliff. There is also the satisfaction of accomplishing a climb to the peak.

Rock climbing is a unique experience that allows the participant to meet new people and be in an exclusive type of “club” that non-climbers aren’t privy to. The climb can be a time to be alone with nature, only meeting up with someone else if they are climbing the same area. It allows the best of both worlds; alone time with nature and social interaction. To experience more of the social side of the sport you may want to try turning the trip into a vacation. One way you can do that is via vacation rentals .

Another excellent factor of rock climbing is the cost. Rock climbing is pretty cheap to participate in when compared to other types of sports and outdoor activities. There is gear and shoes to purchase but both are not expensive and don’t have to be replaced very often. The costs can increase when considering travel to another country to tackle a certain climb but local areas are not costly at all.

For those that has a love for extreme sports, outdoor fun and the water, white water rafting is the perfect combination. Since the 1970′s, white water rafting has been a popular activity where users utilize an inflatable raft to travel along rivers and other water areas with rapids. Done on what is called white water, the rough waters both thrill and excite rafters of all ages. There are six grades of white water rafting levels from a level one with easy to navigate waters to a grade six, which is where the rapids extremely rough and have large rocks and objects making them hard to navigate.

While white water rafting can be dangerous at times, there are levels for a perfect fit for the novice and expert alike. Guides are also available to ensure that the rafters get to their destination safely while having the time of their lives. Safety gear is fitted in advance so white water rafters are ready to tackle their adventure.

One of the benefits of white water rafting is the gorgeous views and scenery. The places that are traveled are for the most part, natural habitats with not much intervention from mankind.

While some consider white water rafting a usual activity or hobby, others find it to be the perfect thing to experience while on vacation. Areas with whitewater rapids usually have package deals that allow the vacationer to experience this unique opportunity. There will be regulations that must be followed as well as rules and safety advisories but they are there for the whitewater rafter to be able to enjoy their trip safely.

The cost of white water rafting varies but typically the highest cost is the travel arrangements to be able to take part in this outdoor activity. Those that live close enough can experience whitewater rafting without much damage to their bank account.

ATV racing is one of the latest crazes in extreme sports with many fans and participants. All an ATV sports enthusiast needs for experience is the ability to handle an all terrain vehicle and drive it safely.

ATV’s, which are all terrain vehicles, are four wheeled vehicles specifically built to withstand rough terrain. There are two categories of all terrain vehicles; normal all terrain vehicles and fast sports versions, which are capable of arena racing. The arena racing ATV’s have more advanced performance and speed levels and can take curves and turns in all types of terrain with a high speed.

In order to compete at an arena level it is best to be an excellent driver of an ordinary all terrain vehicle. Then by finding out what type of terrain is being raced on, you can choose an area to test out your driving skills by picking the terrain that is similar to the arena. There are many periodicals that offer up tips and tricks that will help you learn all you need to know about all terrain racing.
These magazines will also be an excellent resource for picking up gear and accessories for your ATV by including reviews and articles that you can read.

Some arena racing courses allow for more than the usual rough terrain by showcasing different forms of extreme driving and all terrain vehicle stunts. Even if you are not at the level that is ready for competition in this type of event, you can gain insight on what is done and the level of skill it takes.

It doesn’t matter if you plan to use your all terrain vehicle for personal use or plan to take it to the next level by competing, ATV racing is an extreme sport that is popular and has thrills for every participant.

We hear the term “going green” so frequently in today’s relentless media coverage on everything from gardening to fashion, it’s become almost meaningless. Every celebrity, star athlete and news anchor is getting behind the “green” movement, and endorsing activities like conserving water and planting trees. But even though we may feel slightly bombarded with green-tinted messages, the movement is gaining steam, and for good reason. Especially for outdoor sporting and nature enthusiasts, keeping our planet safe and healthy is essential for our own healthy living and enjoyment – which is why so many outdoor sporting good companies are developing “green”, or eco-friendly products, materials and procedures.

The 2010 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market took place in Salt Lake City, UT this year, in beautiful Jordanelle State Park – and attracted over 21,000 outdoor athletes and industry insiders to check out the latest and greatest in camping, sailing, biking, fishing and nature equipment. The surprising theme of the convention wasn’t sport-related at all, but rather how sporting companies are going green through using sustainable and more natural materials and manufacturing protocols. In fact, the opening speaker during the first day’s industry breakfast wasn’t Lance Armstrong or the latest Survivor reality show contestant – it was Chairwoman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Nancy Sutley.

The vendors and sponsors at the market employed a similar eco-conscious theme, with one of the most popular booths belonging to California-based Ocean Mindset. Bob Tanner, Marketing Director for the green company insisted that all apparel, footwear and sporting accessories are manufactured using mainly recycled materials. East Coast retailer Coastal Urge also drew large crowds on demo day, while owner Jeoffrey Nathan emphasized his “Standup for a Clean Ocean” campaign in which surfboat paddlers clean up beaches and marshes surrounding the Atlantic Ocean.

You may think it’s a no-brainer for outdoor sporting fans and athletes to appreciate the beauty and integrity of nature, but the 2010 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market showed attendees that there’s always more we can do to simultaneously enjoy and preserve our planet.

Outdoor athletes and outdoor sporting enthusiasts are thrill seekers. Cyclists and hikers are on the constant search for the higher, steeper, tougher trail to conquer. Fisherman, hunters and sailors are always on the quest for the more treacherous waters and terrain, and marathon runners are always striving to beat their previous time. In the midst of the excitement, preparation and adrenaline rush, though, many outdoor athletes are forgetting about one crucial and potentially life saving tool: sunscreen. That’s right, it’s not just for bathing beauties and swimsuit models anymore! It’s vitally important that male and female outdoor athletes alike make sun protection a priority, even when they think they’re safe.

In fact, it may come as a surprise to some that a summer 2009 study published in Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach, a widely known and respected sports medicine journal for industry professionals, confirmed that current and former athletes – especially ones who compete and train outdoors – are the fastest growing group developing deadly skin cancers called melanomas. The study cited competitive cyclists as being exposed to eight times the ultraviolet rays from the sun as is a recommended healthy dose. Furthermore, winter athletes like skiers and snowboarders developed sunburn after only six minutes in dangerous conditions combining high elevation with blinding sun reflection off snow and ice. Sailors and competitive rowers aren’t safeguarded, either, as the sun’s rays reflect and intensify when they hit the water’s surface.

Luckily, there are ways to stay protected and still enjoy your favorite outdoor sport safely, whether you play professionally or recreationally. The most important factor in preventing skin damage is to apply sunscreen early and often – at least 30 minutes before hearing outdoors and every two hours during outdoor activities. Sun protective clothing and gear helps, too. Sunscreen should be SPF 30 or higher and say “sport” or “waterproof/sweat proof” on the label to ensure the best protection. So remember, before the helmet, the pads, the life vest or the ski poles, a waterproof, high-SPF sunscreen is an absolute necessity for totally safe enjoyment of your favorite outdoor sport.

Swimming is one of the most beneficial exercises a person can do. It’s low-impact, making it great for everyone from children to seniors who are concerned about injury – and it’s high-cardio for serious athletes who want to stay in great shape in their off season. Olympic swimmers have enormous endurance, stamina and energy thanks to the sport’s powerful health benefits – and swimming is even used in Physical Therapy and rehabilitation from injuries. Professional and recreational swimmers and fans of the sport have known about the many benefits for as long as the sport’s existed. But even they might be surprised to learn about the newest way to take a dip – “wild swimming”.

Taking hold as a huge trend in the U.K. and slowly migrating over to America, wild swimming consists of, well, swimming in the wild. Long thought to be polluted and dubbed “unsafe”, natural ponds and rivers have become the newest way to take a dip – regardless of cleanliness. Wild swimming is quickly becoming a new way to seek thrills for all those outdoor sporting enthusiasts who’ve already had their fill of adrenaline-pumping hunting, rafting and camping.

Wild swimming may seem unusual and exciting these days – but before chlorinated pools and swimming clubs, it was the only way to make a splash on a hot day! In fact, before the 1930s, wild swimming was considered the perfect outdoor activity for kids and parents alike – and no one even worried about germs, pollutants or wildlife like fish, turtles or frogs. Spotting – and even catching – a lake or pond’s natural inhabitants was all part of the day’s summer fun.

Of course, don’t dive right in to wild swimming in natural environments without a few safety precautions first. One of the most important things to remember is that, if the water actually looks polluted or dirty, it’s best to refrain – or find cleaner waters. If you’re looking for a great natural activity and need a break from all the chlorine, wild swimming might just be a perfect fit!

As well as being an effective way to get exercise and stay in shape, sports can be a great way to get out and about and see the great outdoors! For those bored of playing sports in indoor arenas and courts, there are a variety of outdoor activities that can be engaged in.

If you like the ocean or large rivers, why not try one of the many water sports available? Canoeing is a popular choice, along with kayaking in more localized areas. If you are a real thrill seeker then white water rafting is an exciting option – just be prepared for a bumpy ride! If you prefer the ocean, jet skis and water skiing are two excellent choices, both very popular with holidaymakers. Indeed, you can even go snorkeling and scuba diving if your interests lie under the water!

Equally, if you do not wish to stay on dry land but are not that keen on the water, you can even take to the skies in a number of sports! Paragliding is a popular choice, although if you prefer the sensation of falling rather than gliding you may want to try bungee jumping. If you really have the stomach for it, why not go all the way and parachute out of a plane? It certainly is more exciting than playing regular sports!

For those that prefer to stay on the ground, outdoor sports such as biking can be a good choice. Horse riding is also an excellent option for people who want to try something a little different. Potholing and cave diving can be great for those who wish to go underground and take a look at the inside of the Earth, although it is worth pointing out that they are probably not the best choice for people who suffer from claustrophobia!

Skiing can be one of the most exciting outdoor sports you can try. Unfortunately, due to the terrains you will be skiing on and the amount of equipment you need to do it, it can be neither cheap nor quick to learn. Here are some of the basic things you need to do to learn how to ski.

Skiing is a complex skill, and unless you know somebody who is an accomplished skier, you are going to need to take lessons. Although this will cost you money, it is probably that fastest way to learn how to ski. Many ski slopes and resorts offer beginners courses for those on their first time on the snow.

The first skill you will need to learn is to how to walk in skis. One technique that is used is called the herringbone, where you point your skis away from each other and walk forward. Be sure to place your foot on the ground with some force to ensure you don’t slip over. You can also walk uphill in skis by pivoting your body to the side and carefully placing one foot ahead of the other on the slope.

The bunny hill is the first stop for many skiers. This is usually a group of small slope that has a rope for skiers to get to the top. When skiing down, you can use the ‘pizza’ and ‘french fries’ technique. This is where you point the skis in a straight line to speed up (like french fries), and close them together to form a ‘V’ shape when you want to slow down (so it looks like a slice of pizza). Once you have mastered this a few times, you can begin learning to turn on the snow.

Skiing is an enjoyable outdoor sport to try. Although the cost and level of skill required can be off putting, it is something that everyone should have a go at at least once!

Skiing is an intense outdoor sport, proving to be exhilarating and dangerous at the same time. It is important when skiing that you do not get ahead of yourself and take on a course that is above your current ability. Luckily there are systems in place to help skiers determine which slopes are right for them.

The bunny hill is the beginner’s slope, where fresh starters can practice basic skills such as controlling their speed and turning. Once you feel comfortable with this, the next level of ski slopes are marked on maps with a green circle. This indicates the level of beginner, but one who has learnt the basics of skiing. Green circle slopes are usually fairly short and contain few or, more likely, no obstacles.

The intermediate trail is marked with a blue square. These courses are slightly harder than the beginner slopes, sometimes containing steeper areas and more obstacles that need to be avoided. You should complete a few green courses before trying one of these.

A course marked with a black diamond indicates the hard level of slopes. Not only do the trails get steeper and more narrow, but there may also be the presence of moguls. These are small hills made out of snow which must be traversed or avoided during the course.

The next level of slope is marked with double black diamond, or sometimes a black diamond with an exclamation mark in it. This is a course for highly accomplished skiers and should under no circumstances be tackled by beginners or people who are uncomfortable on their skis. There are also double black courses that have ‘EX’ written in them, which are designed for experts and skiing professionals. Once this has been completed, the only other thing to try is heliskiing which is where you are dropped from a helicopter onto the slope and you make your way from there. Although exciting, this last type of course is very prone to avalanches and should only really be attempted by a small number of people!

Camping is a great outdoor sport to try if you want to get out and about in a way that is safe for the whole family. A tradition that has been passed down through families for years, camping can be an enjoyable and exciting way to get back to nature. There are a few things you need to do to make your camping trip a success.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you pack the correct equipment. Camping is an outdoor activity and so you should be prepared to face the elements. Although camping is traditionally done in summer months when it is warmer, it is a good idea to bring plenty of warm clothes just in case. You can minimize the extent of the damage adverse weather conditions can do to your trip by checking forecasts before you go, but it is better to be safe than sorry – especially if you are camping in a foreign country.

A knowledge of the area you will be camping in is vital for your camping trip. If you are staying local then this is relatively easy, but if you are in an unfamiliar area then be sure to take maps and guides with you so that you know where you are and where local facilities are at all times. After all, you may need things like local streams to collect drinking water if you run out.

One of the best parts about camping is cooking your own food in the great outdoors! Camp fires are as old as camping itself and there’s nothing quite like roasting some meat over a fire you have made with your bare hands. Toasted marshmallows and smores are also a popular choice on any camping trip, so be sure to bring enough for everybody!

If you are looking for a traditional yet exciting way to spend some time outdoors, why not try camping? Sleeping out under the stars is a great way to get back to nature. Of course, nobody wants to sleep under the stars without a cover, so you will need to put up a tent.

The first thing to do (once you have bought and unpacked your tent) is to find the best location. A flat surface that is a little higher up than the rest of the land is perfect. Flat areas are great because they will be more comfortable for your back, while the extra height ensures that if it rains you won’t get rain water in your tent.

Clear away any debris on the ground such as sticks and stones and lay your tent on the ground. You then have to secure your tent to the ground by using tent pegs. These attach to the inner lining of the tent and fasten to the ground to stop your tent blowing away.

Next you have to make your tent stand up. Connect all of the poles that came in the kit and place them in the top corner at one end. It is a good idea to pull on the guy rope at the same time that you are doing this at this will make the tent more secure in the long run. Once you have done this, take your flysheet and throw it over the tent. You can align the corners of the sheet to the corners of the tent to ensure it fits securely. Peg all additional ropes in place in order to secure them. Once this is done, you should be able to take a step back and look at your erected tent! The tent is now ready for use -have fun!

Of all the outdoor sports to try, rock climbing is one of the most versatile and exciting. Suitable for all stages from beginner to expert, rock climbing is a great way to get some exercise and see a bit of nature. If you want to try your hand at rock climbing, there are a few steps you should complete to make sure you are safe.

The most important thing is to decide what kind of rock surface you want to climb. Both indoor and outdoor rock climbing is available and while you do eventually want to get out and try it on an actual rock face, it is a good idea for starters to try on an indoor slope.

The next step is to take lessons, as there is a definite art to rock climbing that is more difficult than it looks. Your local rock climbing gym will not only be able to teach you how to climb, but will provide you with all the equipment necessary. This includes a hard hat, safety ropes and efficient climbing gear.

Once you have had a few lessons and are looking forward to climbing outdoors, you probably need to buy your own equipment. You can always just rent from certain facilities, but in the long run it makes more sense financially to buy gear yourself. The apparatus you use should be fully optimized to account for your size and your weight, as well as whether you are male or female. Durability is important, so make sure you’re not afraid to skimp on the price.

When all these steps have been completed, you are ready to go rock climbing outdoors! It is safer to go with a partner to have someone who can watch your back and help you out if you get stuck. Locate a suitable rock face in your local area and have fun!

Running a marathon is an amazing accomplishment. As well as being both physically and mentally challenging, training for a marathon can be a great outdoor sport to get you fit and boost your confidence. However, running a marathon is not something you can just do – it takes weeks and months of training and proper exercise before you a fit enough to run one.

It is a good idea to give yourself six months to prepare for a marathon. If you are already a runner and can run for 30 minutes without a break, find out when your planned marathon is and begin training for it half a year away. If you are not at that stage yet, give yourself more time and start running to improve your stamina.

Having the correct running equipment is a good idea when running a marathon. You can buy specially designed running outfits and pieces of equipment such as water bottles that are crafted to fit around your hand, although the most important equipment by far is your running shoes. The right pair of shoes can decide whether you finish the marathon or not and depend on a number of factors, such as the shape of your foot and the way you place your foot on the ground when running. You can get your running gait body type measured professionally to ensure you buy the right type of shoe.

It is also vital that you know how to stretch and warm your muscles before you run the marathon. Muscles can be susceptible to injury during such extended periods of physical activity. Warming up and cooling down when you go for your training runs will ensure that your muscles get used to being worked hard and will not give way at vital moments in your race. There are also a number of creams and supports you can buy that will help you get over any muscle injury you do sustain a lot quicker.

Of all the outdoor sports that you can try, there is probably none more grueling than running a marathon. These extended races are physically and mentally demanding and can be difficult to complete for even the most experienced of runners. If you are thinking about running a marathon, you need to prepare yourself correctly to ensure that you finish the race.

One of the most important factors of running a marathon is nutrition. Without a decent intake of carbohydrates, the body will not have enough energy to get through the race. It is true that carbohydrates can lead to inactive people putting on weight, which is why so many people choose to avoid them. However, if you are a long distance runner, they are vital.

Overall, about 65 per cent of the body’s energy should come from carbohydrates. If there are not enough of these foods in the body, then fat and other vitamins will be burned instead to get enough oxygen to the vital organs. It is often a good idea to use online tools like calorie counters to check how many carbohydrates you are getting. This is also useful in checking caloric intake and maintaining a healthy weight.

As with most food groups, there are “good” carbohydrates and “bad” carbohydrates. The good kind of carbohydrates include foods that have not been processed in any way and are totally natural. Processed foods often lose many of the qualities that made them good for you in the first place, as these qualities are replaced by preservatives by food manufacturers to ensure they stay fresher for longer and can remain on a food shelf for a longer period of time. The types of carbohydrates you should be getting come from foods such as potatoes, cereals, pasta, raisins, wheat bread, bagels and root vegetables.

Scuba diving is a fun and exciting sport to take up if you want a change from engaging in regular activities. It can be a great way to see parts of the world that many people do not get to see – namely because they are underwater! However, as you will be underwater for extended periods, scuba diving can be dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing. There are a number of things you should do to prepare for any upcoming scuba diving excursion before you get in the water.

Firstly, you should be absolutely sure that you WANT to go. This may sound silly, but many people have a tendency to get dragged into things they do not want to do. If you have a fear of the water or are unsure about your diving capabilities, you may want to think twice. After all, there are plenty of other trips you can take, such as on a glass-bottom boat, that allows you to see the marine world in splendor.

If you are sure you want to dive, the next step is to rent your equipment. You can do this yourself or, if you are a beginner, there are many companies that can provide you with all the relevant diving gear and arrange a trip for you. Make sure your equipment meets all the latest safety and design standards to ensure you will be safe underwater.

The only thing to do now is to find a location in which to dive! Again, if you are going with a chartered company they will be able to arrange this for you. If you are looking after this yourself, be sure to keep in mind seasonal changes. You should also be sure to monitor the weather closely, as you do not want to get caught scuba diving if a storm is approaching!

game, is there? The rush as athletes run around and try to accomplish their goal, and the tension of never knowing what is g

oing to happen next. Sports were the first reality shows, after all. And the most exciting part of any kind of event is i

f you have a little money on it. While it’s definitely nice to see one side triumph over the other, is it or is it not even better when you stand to make a bit of profit off of the outcome in question? Don’t lie, it feels good to watch somebody else make you some money.
The feeling of having a professional athlete (or better yet, an entire team of them) as your employees is a pretty nice one. For that one little moment when you are getting paid for having someone else do a lot of work, you can actually feel like these wealthy athletes are working for you, and you alone. That is probably why Sports betting is such a rush — and why it is so popular with so many people. The fun does not end with the game, nor even with the pay out you get after the game.

Later on, when you are out spending your winnings on something fun, you will still be enjoying yourself from that win. The athletes themselves will be in training, busting their butts to get in better shape and further build their skills. But you don’t have to do that, because all you have to do is bet on the right people. This is also why sports betting is so much fun. You get to hang out, watch, and not feel like you’re being lazy. After all, you still have the winning spirit. You just don’t have to sweat for it — much.

White water rafting is a popular choice among extreme sports fans of an activity guaranteed to increase their adrenaline. However, white water rafting can be a very dangerous sport and there are a number of things you should do in preparation of any rafting trip before you undertake the challenge.

One of the most important steps is choosing who to go with. If you are a beginner, you may want to think about rafting with a friend who has experience and has gone white water rafting before. Companies that specialize in white water rafting excursions will supply you with instructors and trained professionals to go along with you, which should allow you to relax in the knowledge that you are safe.

There are a number of minimum requirements that have to be met before anyone can go rafting. Although you are not legally required to be able to swim, you must wear an inflatable life jacket and safety helmet at all times on your trip. It is also a good idea to have at least some experience in the water before rafting, just to be prepared!

It is also important to wear the right type of clothing while rafting. Obviously you are going to get quite wet, so refrain from wearing cotton or other delicate fabrics – sticking to waterproof clothing is the best idea. Conditions may vary depending on the time of year to take your rafting trip and your location, so be sure to research into this thoroughly before going rafting. If you need help, companies that specialize in rafting will be able to give you all the information you need before you take to the water.

White water rafting is an exhilarating sport and, when prepared for correctly, can provide a great day’s entertainment with the memories of a lifetime to match!

If you are tired of playing regular sports, bungee jumping can be a fun way to inject a sense of danger into your life. However, like with all extreme sports, it is vitally important that you prepare the right way before executing a jump.

First of all, research a number of bungee jumping locations and companies that can arrange it for you. It is a good idea to check that your instructors have all the relevant safety qualifications and experience of arranging bungee jumps, as well as the correct safety equipment on hand for you to use. Although the better companies can be more expensive, it is definitely a worthwhile investment – this is your life after all!

There will be instructors at the top of the bungee jump as well as the bottom. It is very important that you listen to everything they tell you to ensure your safety. The team will weigh you to make sure they are using the right type of bungee cord and will ask you to sign a waiver stating that, in the unlikely event of an accident, no-one can sue them.

It is also important to remember that you don’t have to go through with the jump if you don’t want to. If you get to the point where you are about to jump and you suddenly change your mind, it can feel slightly embarrassing to call the whole thing off. However, it is important to remember that you can do this at any time and that there is no shame in it.

If you decide to go through with the jump and feel comfortable with the instructors and their equipment, there is only one more thing to remember – bring someone with you to take pictures! This is going to be one of the most memorable events of your life and you want to remember it!

If you have become bored with playing the usual sports such as soccer, football and baseball, why not try one of the numerous extreme action sports available? These activities are guaranteed to release endorphins and adrenaline to give your sporting lifestyle a boost!

One extreme sport that many people try first is bungee jumping. Once a strong elastic cord is fastened to your body by a number of harnesses, you jump from a high point such as a cliff top of from a bridge with only gravity to bring you down! Once the cord has been stretched to its capacity, you spring back upwards through the sky.

Bungee jumping is actually very safe as a number of safety techniques and back up harnesses are attached to each jumper in order to avoid an accident. Still, the experience can be very scary and feel highly dangerous, although if you are looking to engage in extreme action sports, this is the point!

Another popular choice is white water rafting. This is usually done is a small group of people who all enter a large raft and paddle themselves downhill through rapids and fast moving water in search of a thrill. The speed of the currents inject the sense of danger, as if anyone was to fall off the boat they could easily get caught up in the water and drown. However, the strict safety measure and rigorous training protocols that teachers undergo ensure this is unlikely.

Paragliding is another great extreme sport to try. With a large glider attached, you take a running jump off a cliff and use the currents of air to float through the sky until landing. Other equally exciting options are hot air ballooning, sky diving and even alpine skiing, with each designed to inject a sense of danger in your sporting activities!
