4 Best Places to Hike in Canada

Should you decide to visit Canada by hiking through its beautiful mountains, there are several trails that you shouldn’t miss. The following are some of the best hikes for enjoying nature at its fullest. For more specific information on these and other Canadian activities, you can always check out Canada 411.

The first trail you must try is the Killarney Wilderness Trail that extends 7.5 kilometers. It can become challenging in some areas but it’s perfect overall for the average hiker. It is located in a remote area, so bring signaling and other safety devices.

The second hike to try is the Crobe Lake Trail, a little more advanced than Killarney. Most inexperienced hikers take this trail in a counter-clockwise direction, hitting the steepest areas first while they are still fresh. It takes about six hours to complete, which is fine since you will see some of the most beautiful scenery including bridges, lakes, and fantastic lookout points.

The third trail is in Waterton National Park located to the west in Alberta. Here you will find several trails that require more expertise on the trail. Together they are almost 200 kilometers of phenomenal hiking. Be sure you’re an expert before you leave, take plenty of water and a first aid kit.

Finally, the fourth trail is found in the newest park in Alberta, Cypress Hills Provincial Park. Here you will find much easier terrain to cover. There are also perfect areas for family groups and other beginners who prefer trails that are more laid back and beautiful. The good news is that the park has free admission and there are many other outdoor activities in which you can participate.

Eating before a workout

Eating and then doing exercise on a full stomach can be dangerous.  It will more often than not cause nausea, cramping and stomach upsets.  It can also hinder the benefits your workout could give you if you worked out on a lighter stomach.  Below are a few handy tips on what to eat before and after a workout:-

1. Make sure that you eat or drink something at least 20 or 30mins before your workout.  Not a large meal but certainly some water so you are hydrated and either a protein shake, protein bar or a banana for example to give you an energy lift and some fuel in the tank for your workout.

2. Avoid caffeine.  Some people assume caffeine is good but it is a stimulant not an energy boost and should be avoided as a pre or post work out energy boost.

3. After your work out. Eat!  The hour after your workout is the most important, your body and muscle need to refuel on precious nutrients so drink lots of water or an electrolyte drink and enjoy healthy light meal such as eggs, chicken and veggies or tuna and wholegrain rice.  If you’re on the go and don’t have time to eat take a whey protein to keep your body full of what it needs.

Your body needs energy but being weighed down with a full stomach can cause harm and your exercise experience will not be a happy one.  By following the tips above and learning to listen to your body and what it’s comfortable with will make for a safe and happy exercise ready body!

Preparing For a Triathlon

Completing a triathlon is no easy feat, even when you take it at your own pace instead of trying to beat everyone else to the finish line. Triathlon events feature three distinct segments: swimming, bicycling and marathon running. To accomplish even one of these tasks takes training and discipline–to complete all three requires triple dedication as well.

Train for each segment of your triathlon as if training for an individual race. Ideally, training for the swimming portion can be done in a long pool with lap markers, but if that isn’t available, you can make do in a shorter one. It is advised that you practice swimming in open water at least one or two times before the actual triathlon, because even if you have access to a pool for swimming laps you will want to have the experience of what swimming in open (and potentially murky or cloudy) water is really like.

The cycling segment of the triathlon is pretty straightforward; really, the only way to train for it is to bicycle often. Pay special attention to going up and down hills, and you may want to bicycle during windy weather in preparation for the actual weather during the event; the Ironman Triathlon is known for having crosswinds during the cycling portion of the event, and it’s true of many other triathlons as well.

For the marathon run, do cardio workouts to increase your endurance and practice sprinting and timing yourself. If you have no experience with marathon running, be sure to learn the proper form to start the race in—the method of launching yourself off the starting line helps give you a little extra boost. Finally, be sure to visit a triathlon store and to purchase good athletic gear. Department store stuff won’t do–think of your comfort and don’t skimp on the budget.

Extreme Sports: The Next Gambler’s Dream?

When the phrase extreme sports is used by a person the first instinct is to think of really “out there” sports. After all, the name of the sport says it all – - its extreme. However, extreme sports seems to be growing in popularity and the general public’s opinion of extreme sports has changed.

What used to be a name only reserved for extreme snowboarding, skiing and hiking is now also reserved for other sporting events such as mountain climbing, surfing, BMX racing and sky diving just to name a few. With such a wide range of events it can only be expected that betting sites and gamblers all across the world will take advantage of it.

Here are some of the foreseeable sports that sports betting sites could potentially start taking bets for:

- Surfing

Surfing has some major competitions all over the world as well as a huge following. Sports betting sites could easily take bets on who will get the most points, who gets the perfect 10 and other elements of surfing.

- BMX racing

Just like any car or horse race, BMX racing could have bets taken on the various races. Each biker in a BMX has vast experience which would make it possible to have odds on each racer.

- Snowboarding

Snowboarding could be made into a race downhill in which the betters place bets on who would finish first, who does the most extreme tricks and other elements.

At the moment, none of the sports betting sites take bets on extreme sports. With the exception of the X-Games, extreme sports are still under the radar of gambling sites. However, that won’t last long. Sports betting sites are out to make as much money as possible. As extreme sports starts to grow in popularity, so will the possibility of betting sites taking bets on the outcome of certain events.

A Paradise for Outdoorsmen

Smell the bacon frying in a pan over a campfire as you watch the orange and red sunrise streak over the tops of the mountains. Soon, you’ll fix the pancakes and the eggs for a hearty meal to give you energy for the day.

The mountain range topped with deep green pine trees extends as far as the eye can see. Off in the distance, you hear the bugling call of an elk. Ah, this is the life for hunters, anglers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Put on your favorite pair of True Religion jeans and enjoy the day.

Elk River is a haven for the outdoorsman because it has so much to offer. You can ride your ATV during the summer over backcountry trails and logging roads. You can feel the exhilaration and watch sprays of white snow trailing your snowmobile as you ride over those same trails in the winter. Cross-country skiing over pristine snow is also available during the wintertime.

If you enjoy water, there are deep mountain-blue lakes, rivers and streams. You can go fly-fishing, canoeing and kayaking. If you can’t bring your own canoe or kayak, you can rent them locally.

Various campgrounds are available with hookups for your RV or spots where you can pitch a tent. From the campgrounds, you can hike various trails to places such as Granddad Bridge, the overlook to Dworshak Reservoir, Elk Butte, or to the waterfalls at the Upper, Middle or Lower Falls.

You can see magnificent wildlife in the Elk River area and the nearby Clearwater National Forest. Majestic elk herds roam the mountains. Moose graze in the mountain meadows. The sky is filled with ospreys and great blue herons. Often, you can see golden eagles soaring through the deep blue sky.

Rock Climbing

With the many choices of extreme sports, rock climbing is one that has many benefits. From weight loss and muscle gain to social interaction and cost; rock climbing has something for everyone.

Rock climbing is perfect for those that want to get in shape because it works a multitude of parts of the body such as the arms, legs, torso and shoulders. The calories burned are always high no matter what kind of rock climbing is done. While rock climbing is strenuous at first, it is similar to most workouts where at first a person will feel limp and tired. Once they are used to climbing their muscles will strengthen and they will acquire definition in the body and overall weight loss.

On top of being an excellent workout, rock climbing allows the participant to experience breathtaking views that can only be appreciated after the climb. These are views that might not be otherwise seen or experienced without a climb to the top of a cliff. There is also the satisfaction of accomplishing a climb to the peak.

Rock climbing is a unique experience that allows the participant to meet new people and be in an exclusive type of “club” that non-climbers aren’t privy to. The climb can be a time to be alone with nature, only meeting up with someone else if they are climbing the same area. It allows the best of both worlds; alone time with nature and social interaction. To experience more of the social side of the sport you may want to try turning the trip into a vacation. One way you can do that is via vacation rentals .

Another excellent factor of rock climbing is the cost. Rock climbing is pretty cheap to participate in when compared to other types of sports and outdoor activities. There is gear and shoes to purchase but both are not expensive and don’t have to be replaced very often. The costs can increase when considering travel to another country to tackle a certain climb but local areas are not costly at all.

A Guide to Going Camping

Camping is a great outdoor sport to try if you want to get out and about in a way that is safe for the whole family. A tradition that has been passed down through families for years, camping can be an enjoyable and exciting way to get back to nature. There are a few things you need to do to make your camping trip a success.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you pack the correct equipment. Camping is an outdoor activity and so you should be prepared to face the elements. Although camping is traditionally done in summer months when it is warmer, it is a good idea to bring plenty of warm clothes just in case. You can minimize the extent of the damage adverse weather conditions can do to your trip by checking forecasts before you go, but it is better to be safe than sorry – especially if you are camping in a foreign country.

A knowledge of the area you will be camping in is vital for your camping trip. If you are staying local then this is relatively easy, but if you are in an unfamiliar area then be sure to take maps and guides with you so that you know where you are and where local facilities are at all times. After all, you may need things like local streams to collect drinking water if you run out.

One of the best parts about camping is cooking your own food in the great outdoors! Camp fires are as old as camping itself and there’s nothing quite like roasting some meat over a fire you have made with your bare hands. Toasted marshmallows and smores are also a popular choice on any camping trip, so be sure to bring enough for everybody!

Municipal bonds – the answer to a well rounded portfolio

In the world of investments, there is no shortage of opportunities.  These investment fuel your passions and desires whether you want to enjoy the great outdoors in Elk River, Idaho or explore the lush natural beauty of the mountains. You need to invest wisely.

When considering how you can finance that trip to Elk River, you may feel overwhelmed with your investment options. In fact, it may seem like there are too many options to choose from. However, when looking for an investment one must understand that investment risk runs the gamete from high risk venture capital to low risk treasuries bonds; there are also many other opportunities in-between. Regardless of your current portfolio, looking for a new secure investment can be a time consuming and arduous process. There are so many different resources at your disposal, each offering advice that it is easy to feel overwhelmed – yet under informed. That is why when looking for a less risky and secure investment one should consider a Municipal bond.

Municipal bonds are issued by cities, states, governmental agencies or any type of local government to pay for projects for cities, states and counties. Interest income due to the holder of the bond is usually tax-free. The only way that a municipal bond holder may be subject to tax is if the holder is subject to alternate minimum tax, which is unlikely for most.

If you live in a state with higher income tax, municipal bonds may seem like an even more attractive option. Since 1924, Global Financial Data reports that municipal bonds have an average rate of return of 4.1%. So while not the best of returns it is still an investment with a reasonable means of security, plus these bonds can reduce the beta of a risky portfolio. Also, your rate of return is (more likely) going to be positive; this creates a mini-tax haven for your investment and returns. The key to any portfolio is diversification. Therefore, if you desire a well-rounded portfolio that can weather many financial storms, municipal bonds should be included. They can significantly reduce your risk (beta of the portfolio) in bad markets without risking much of your return.

Which Extreme Sports are Right for You?

Rafting - Jacaré Pepira River, Brotas, São Pau...

If you have become bored with playing the usual sports such as soccer, football and baseball, why not try one of the numerous extreme action sports available? These activities are guaranteed to release endorphins and adrenaline to give your sporting lifestyle a boost!

One extreme sport that many people try first is bungee jumping. Once a strong elastic cord is fastened to your body by a number of harnesses, you jump from a high point such as a cliff top of from a bridge with only gravity to bring you down! Once the cord has been stretched to its capacity, you spring back upwards through the sky.

Bungee jumping is actually very safe as a number of safety techniques and back up harnesses are attached to each jumper in order to avoid an accident. Still, the experience can be very scary and feel highly dangerous, although if you are looking to engage in extreme action sports, this is the point!

Another popular choice is white water rafting. This is usually done is a small group of people who all enter a large raft and paddle themselves downhill through rapids and fast moving water in search of a thrill. The speed of the currents inject the sense of danger, as if anyone was to fall off the boat they could easily get caught up in the water and drown. However, the strict safety measure and rigorous training protocols that teachers undergo ensure this is unlikely.

Paragliding is another great extreme sport to try. With a large glider attached, you take a running jump off a cliff and use the currents of air to float through the sky until landing. Other equally exciting options are hot air ballooning, sky diving and even alpine skiing, with each designed to inject a sense of danger in your sporting activities!

Consider Credit Counseling Basics

Many people struggle with out-of-control debt on a daily basis. This can be extremely stressful, with creditors calling daily and no way to pay bills. For some people, filing for bankruptcy or missing payments and damaging credit might seem like the only available options.

Credit counseling is one option for people who feel like they are in over their head with debt problems and don’t know where to turn or how to get it under control.

What Is Credit Counseling?

A credit counselor is a person who will examine your household finances, your income, and all the debt you currently have. From there, he or she will work to help get finances and credit under control. This is typically done through a Debt Management Program, also referred to as a DMP. The DMP is beneficial because it acts on your behalf, so creditors are more apt to agree to lower monthly payments when a DMP acts as a mediator.

How Does Credit Counseling Work?

Credit counseling does not eliminate debt altogether. Instead, creditors close the open accounts to keep you from incurring additional charges. Then, credit counselors work with creditors to consolidate your credit into just one monthly payment with a schedule and at interest rates creditors agree to. These lowered interest rates are significant and allow you to pay off your debt much faster than you otherwise may have.

Is Credit Counseling Legitimate?

There are many reputable, non-profit credit counseling agencies that will provide legitimate services; it’s even a requirement to go through it if you plan on filing for bankruptcy. However, there are many scams and disreputable companies that charge high fees or fees they don’t inform you of. So it’s important to do research and check the BBB before signing with an agency.

Does It Affect My Credit?

Credit counseling can provide a number of benefits, but credit counseling also negatively affects your credit for a number of years.
